That old dirt bag, she's gone. The silt collector has done its job and spring is here with less runoff and the drainage system is mostly in place. There will be less soil disturbance with mainly one more site to be excavated, THREE, so the wharf can breathe again. Whew!!!

At our business meeting 150509 we voted to not spend an extra $3500 or so to pave the entire turnaround area at the bottom of the drive. The big white pipe on far left will be where boulder retaining wall will be installed with paving next to it, but the far right by the outfall structure will be like gravelled shoulder. Pavement will be like a single lane driveway joining up with previous paving. The big black tanks have served their purpose.

The wind can howl and the Earth can shake but we will remain in place. Latter day seismic preparations include hurricane clips, many multiple fastenings and check out these two bolted and fastened seismic protectors. They are bolted to the foundation and bolted into the 5 and 6 play 2X6 studs.

Not too many mysteries remain beneath the surface of the Earth on our site, besides this remains of a dump under THREE from previous owners 30 years ago. Back in the days when people just dumped stuff instead of recycling. So now we have to recycle for them. But it is mostly household waste ~ bottles, cans, and miscellaneous car parts. I think it will amount to no more than half a pickup truck's worth but it has to go to Hartland land fill along with the soil surrounding it. Aren't you glad we learned to think GREEN?

The retaining wall below FOUR will be a lower grade than the stumps and Arbutus trees. We are costing the difference of adding more retaining wall to protect the Arbutus or to excavate them off and slope what's left. There aren't many Arbutus trees west of us.

It may be a simple solution to the mysterious bending post in the downstairs kitchen. Get rid of it. It seems to be more aesthetic than load bearing. But it is an unsolved mystery at this point as to the pressure on it. Structural engineer will determine its fate. The joists did not match the post footing.
